Hyundai revealed the all-new 2027 Tucson in New York on October 1, 2026. It’s the fifth generation of Hyundai’s best-selling SUV and the first full redesign in about five years. The new Tucson is bigger, much bolder, and built around a new hybrid system that Hyundai says targets up to 42 mpg. If you drive a Tucson in Highland, Munster, Hammond, or anywhere in Northwest Indiana, or you’re shopping for one, here’s what Webb Hyundai Highland knows so far and what it means for your next move.

What is new on the 2027 Hyundai Tucson?

Nearly everything. The 2027 Tucson gets new styling, a bigger body, a next-generation hybrid powertrain, a new infotainment system, and Hyundai’s first Smart Terrain Assist off-road technology. Hyundai calls it “The Boldest SUV.”

The design follows Hyundai’s new “Art of Steel” language, with squared-off, muscular fenders and crisp body lines. Up front, H-Edge lighting stretches across the nose, and sculpted Prism Rear Lamps give the tail a distinctive look. Micro Pixel Lighting is a new available option. It uses 25,600 individual LED pixels to shape the headlight beam and can project welcome animations.

Hyundai also announced new nature-inspired paint colors, including Ranger Green, Kodiak Blue, Driftwood Gray, and Red Rock Orange. Which colors and finishes come to the U.S. market is still to be confirmed.

How much bigger is the 2027 Tucson?

The North American (long-wheelbase) 2027 Tucson is about 2.4 inches longer, 1.6 inches wider, and 0.8 inches taller than the outgoing model, with a 1.2-inch-longer wheelbase.

That growth goes straight into the cabin. Hyundai lists rear-seat legroom at 1,064 mm (about 41.9 inches) and cargo space at 41.7 cubic feet behind the second row (SAE). The rear doors now open to 83 degrees, up from 73, which makes loading a car seat or helping a grandparent in much easier.

  • Length: about 185 inches (+2.4 in)
  • Width: about 75 inches (+1.6 in)
  • Height: about 66.3 inches (+0.8 in)
  • Wheelbase: about 109.6 inches (+1.2 in)
  • Ground clearance: about 7.1 inches standard, 8.3 inches on XRT PRO

Which engines will the 2027 Tucson offer in the U.S.?

Hyundai lists two U.S. powertrains: a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder rated at 184 hp with an eight-speed automatic, and a next-generation hybrid rated at 233 hp combined with a six-speed automatic.

The new hybrid uses two electric motors. A small 13 kW motor works directly with the engine, and a 47.7 kW drive motor sits between the engine and the transmission. Hyundai quotes 0–60 mph in 8.5 seconds for the hybrid. Hybrids already made up 31 percent of U.S. Tucson sales in 2025, so expect the hybrid to be the heart of the lineup.

Hyundai also announced a new Tucson Plug-in Hybrid with an estimated 50 miles of electric range. It has not confirmed U.S. availability for that model yet, so we’ll update this post when Hyundai Motor America does.

How efficient is the 2027 Tucson Hybrid, and what can it tow?

Hyundai is targeting up to 42 mpg for the front-wheel-drive Tucson Hybrid on 17-inch wheels, and around 38–40 mpg for all-wheel-drive versions. In North America, the hybrid is rated to tow up to 3,000 pounds, which is 1,000 pounds more than before.

These are Hyundai’s target figures. Final EPA ratings will be published closer to launch, and real-world results always depend on driving style, wheel size, and weather. Two other hybrid features stand out:

  • HEV Stay Mode lets you run the climate control, audio, and device charging with the engine off. That’s handy while waiting in a school pickup line or at a ballgame.
  • E-Traction adjusts torque in corners to reduce wheel slip and improve stability.

A 3,000-pound tow rating puts a small boat or a lightweight camper within reach. Always confirm towing equipment and ratings for the exact trim you’re considering.

What is Pleos Connect and Gleo AI?

Pleos Connect is Hyundai’s new infotainment system, built on Android Automotive. It runs on a 12.9-inch or 17-inch center touchscreen paired with a 9.9-inch driver display, and it includes Gleo AI, a conversational voice assistant.

With Gleo AI you can make requests in plain language, like asking for a trailhead with parking within 30 minutes, instead of digging through menus. Apps run natively without phone mirroring, and the system gets over-the-air updates, so it should keep improving after you buy.

Hyundai also kept physical buttons for climate and audio, so you can adjust the heat in January without taking your eyes off Indianapolis Blvd. The gear selector moves to a stalk on the steering column, which frees up the console for available dual 15-watt wireless charging pads.

Which new features matter most for Northwest Indiana winters?

The available 13.5-volt heated windshield glass is the big one. Hyundai says it can fully de-ice in about 15 minutes, and it has no visible heating wires.

A few other features are worth a look for Lake County drivers:

  • Heated glass in summer, too: Hyundai says the metal-coated glass rejects 60 percent of solar energy, which helps keep the cabin cooler.
  • Three-zone climate control (available) gives back-seat passengers their own settings.
  • Multi-Air Mode spreads airflow through extra vents so no one gets blasted directly.
  • Smart Terrain Assist and all-wheel drive help on snowy side streets and unplowed lots. Availability varies by trim.

What is the Tucson XRT PRO?

The XRT PRO is a new, more rugged Tucson that Hyundai says is coming to North America. It adds all-wheel drive, all-terrain tires, front recovery hooks, better approach and departure angles, and about 1.2 inches of extra ground clearance.

It’s also the showcase for Hyundai’s new off-road technology:

  • Smart Terrain Assist: reads traction and slip in real time and shows a green, orange, or red “stuck score.”
  • Target Speed Control: a low-speed off-road cruise control (about 1–15 mph) that handles the throttle and brakes while you steer.
  • Memory Reversing Assist: records your path and helps steer you back out of a tight spot in reverse.
  • Ground View Monitor: a camera view that lets you “see through” the front of the vehicle.

Hyundai will show a separate sport-inspired Tucson at the Paris Motor Show on October 12, 2026.

What safety technology is new?

The 2027 Tucson adds an In-Cabin Monitoring Unit that watches for driver drowsiness, plus Child Presence Detection and Rear Occupant Alert to warn you if a child or pet is left in the back seat.

Other driver assistance updates include Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Navigation-Linked Smart Cruise Control that slows for curves and roundabouts, and Trailer Reverse Assist for backing up a trailer. The body uses extensive hot-stamped steel and reinforced center pillars. Standard equipment by trim hasn’t been announced, so check with us before counting on a specific feature.

When can you buy the 2027 Tucson in Highland, IN?

Hyundai says the all-new Tucson launches in Korea later in 2026, with North America following in 2027. U.S. trims, pricing, and an exact on-sale date haven’t been announced.

When Hyundai Motor America confirms details and allocation, Webb Hyundai Highland will be among the first to know. If you’d like a heads-up, send us a note and our team will reach out as soon as we have real information to share, not guesses.

Should you wait for the 2027 Tucson or buy a 2026 now?

It depends on your timeline. If you need a vehicle before winter, the 2026 Tucson is a proven, well-equipped SUV available on our lot now. If you can wait until 2027 and want the newest tech and hybrid, it may be worth holding off.
